Tally's Home Alone

Posted by Arden Wallace

I spend a lot of time with my dog Tally when I get home from work but I often worry about her during the day when I’m not able to be there with her. I’ve learned to leave the TV on when I go (she likes the noise) and I even have a neighbor come over and let her out once a day but what I really get concerned about is the vandalism that’s occurred in my neighborhood recently. I went to http://SecurityChoice.com to see about an alarm because Tally frightens really easily and I hate to think of her alone and scared at the house. I try to give her all the love and affection an animal deserves but there are a lot of ways I take care of her that some people don’t ever see which is what I think actually makes me a good homeowner. I love having a dog but keeping one happy sure is a lot of work when it comes down to it! She’s worth it though!

The Grass is Not Greener

Remember Erma Bombeck's book "The Grass Is Always Greener Over The Septic Tank"? This statement does not hold true for my yard this summer. My whole lawn consists of brown, very dry grass, but the weeds are a lovely green and flourishing like they have been watered every day. ( In my community, water is an expensive commodity and I rarely see anyone watering their lawn.) I mowed tonight only to shorten the weeds. They are not quite so noticeable that way. It won't be long and even the heartiest of the weeds will lose their strength and give in to the cooler temperatures of fall in the midwest.

A Great Smile

Your smile is the first thing most people will notice about you. If you want to make a good impression you will want to keep that smile looking it's very best. Visiting your dentist regularly is an excellent way to do this but you will need to practice good oral hygiene at home, also. Brushing and flossing regularly is vital to good oral health and the first step in fighting gum disease. Gum disease, otherwise known as periodontal disease, can be very sneaky. Unlike other conditions that produce symptoms like a fever or pain, periodontal disease can attack with little or no warning. Even your best efforts at brushing and flossing may not control the plaque that forms and leads to gum disease. A visit to your dentist can provide you with a thorough exam and a professional cleaning to combat the disease. Your dentist may even recommend that you see a periodontist. This is a specialist who treats diseases of the gums.

If you need assistance in choosing a dentist you may want to check out The Smile Generation's website. They will help you find an approved dentist, orthodontist, oral surgeon, or periodontist in your area. Keep smiling and others will smile back!

Back To School Time

It's back to school time in our area. Our fair city had it's first day back today. As I was going to work this morning, I noticed a lot more activity at that hour and kids seemed to be everywhere I looked. This year my oldest granddaughter is a sophomore in highschool and her sister is in 7th grade. They are my son's girls. My daughter's oldest started kindergarten this year! What a milestone! I hope mom handled it OK. I still have two grandchildren, ages 2 1/2 and 16 mos, who have a few years to go before they are off to school and I am in no hurry for that to happen. Time flies and they don't stay little very long, it seems.
