Walking

I went for my nightly walk tonight. It was actually a little cool...had to take a sweatshirt with me. I live a block from a college campus and that is where I like to walk in the summer months. It is a pretty campus with a walking path and a pond with a fountain. They have planted many pretty flowers this year. I try to walk every night but sometimes I am just too tired after a full day of work. Yes, I am getting old!

Mulberries

I visited my granddaughters tonight. They live on an acerage about 3 miles from town. We took a walk and found a mulberry tree that I didn't know they had. We picked a few ripe berries and had a snack. They are very good on ice cream. I remember picking them with my Grandma when I was very young. I think she used them to make jelly.

Health Insurance

Whew!! I just finished filling out a 6 page medical questionnaire to apply for a new health insurance policy. I have always had group insurance through work but the premiums have been going up by leaps and bounds each year (partly because of my age, I'm sure) so my employer has asked me to see what it would cost for an individual policy. Turns out that I can get about the same coverage at a lower premium. My employer will still pay a portion of it and I'm very thankful for that. I hope I answered all the questions correctly. Is there anyone out there that can remember their entire medical history for the last 10 years??

Bible School

Now is the time of year when many churches are having "Vacation Bible School". My 9 yr. old granddaughter has invited me to her program tomorrow. Our church always has a little program on the last day of Bible School. They usually put on little skits and sing all the new songs they have learned. I will be able to go over my lunch hour and it will be an uplifting break in my day!

Benjamin Button

I watched "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" last weekend. The movie was adapted from a 1920's story by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It kept my interest pretty well, as it was an unusual story. I had a little trouble wrapping my brain around the idea of someone aging backwards while everyone around him was growing older. Cate Blanchett was Brad Pitt's (Benjamin) love interest. They came together in the middle of both their lives but then aged in opposite directions. Interesting story. You can buy this movie and many others online at Amazon.com.

Body Proportions

Last Saturday I went shopping for a birthday present for my Granddaughter, who is turning 3 this month. I thought, as long as I was out and about, I might as well look at the latest fashions. I don't go clothes shopping very often. Gaining 15 lbs. after quitting smoking 1 1/2 yrs. ago kind of took the fun out of it. Nothing fits. My body has never been proportioned well, but now it's definitely worse. Bottom is way too big for the top, if you know what I mean.:) As it turns out, I don't really care for today's styles anyway, so I avoided all the misery of looking in the mirror when trying things on. I guess I will have to be happy with my growing collection of shoes and purses. They always fit.

Paintball

Cabin In The Woods

Lately, I have been thinking of the trip my kids took me on at this time last summer. Good memories. We spent several nights at Palmer Gulch Resort in the Black Hills of South Dakota. It was as close to roughing it as I will ever be, if I have my way. Our cabin had a wood burning fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, and a modern bathroom. I remember when we arrived, about 6:00 PM, how cold it was. My son got a fire going as soon as possible but I think I slept in my clothes that night. If I concentrate, I can still hear the wind rustling in the tall pines and smell their tangy scent. The early mornings were gorgeous, quiet, and peaceful. Give me a cabin in the woods any day over some vacation spot that is full of commercialism. I hope we can all go again someday.

A Good Burger

I met some fellow employees after work today at our local golf club for supper. Some of them had been golfing but I just came for the food. A nice glass of wine and a good burger were what I was craving and I wasn't disappointed. We have a very nice clubhouse, though it could use a little more modernization. After the rain we have been having, the course, itself, couldn't have looked better...very green and lush.

Holocaust Shooting

Today, when I was home on my lunch hour, I heard about the tragic shooting at the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. This news sent shivers down my spine, not only because it is a terrible, senseless tragedy, but because last week my oldest granddaughter was there with other 7th and 8th graders from her school. I'm sure there were many school tours there today, as well. I know we can't protect them from everything but no one (especially a child) is ready to be exposed to this kind of senseless violence in our country. We take things like safety for granted every day. I'm so thankful that she was not there today to witness this horror. I can't wait to see her and give her a hug.

Rain

Rain, rain go away. Let the sunshine out today. Yes, we have been having several days of rainy weather and now I am ready for some sun. I was very disappointed that the weekend forecast was for rain both Saturday and Sunday but it did give me a chance to get some indoor things done. It was overcast all day today and quite chilly and I am ready for a warm sunny day. I still haven't finished my spring yard clean-up! Seems if the weather cooperates, and I have the time, I spend it mowing. At least, we have not had any flooding in my area, as yet.
