My Mother's Words

As I grow older, I have found that on more than one occasion I have heard my mother's voice coming right out of my own mouth. This occured most recently when I was having a conversation with my daughter about her choice of TV programs. My daughter is a grown woman and certainly has a right to view whatever she wants on TV, but I, on the other hand, am not adverse to voicing my opinion on these matters. She was channel surfing and I noticed that whenever she stopped for a few minutes to watch something it was one of those reality shows like "Rock of Love" or "Life With the Kardashians" or "Bad Girls". I said I couldn't understand why, as the intelligent woman she is, she would want to waste her time in viewing any of these programs. I find them to be "Just Plain Trash".

OK...let's go back to about 1963. A friend of mine loaned me a "Photoplay" magazine (this was a popular movie-type magazine that I would never have had the money to purchase myself) and I was voraciously reading it when my mother walked into my bedroom. She took one look at the magazine cover and told me that she couldn't understand why anyone with the slightest bit of intelligence would want to waste their time on "Just Plain Trash".

Time Flies

Wow! I can't believe it has been so long since I have posted on my blog! Don't really have a good reason, I guess I just haven't been in the mood. We had such a long winter and now spring has been anything but wonderful. We have had a few nice days but not on the weekends when I could really enjoy them. I think I have just been in a grumpy mood and I think (well, I certainly hope) it will improve when the weather does. I need to get out in the yard and do some spring clean-up. I have noticed that most of my neighbors (those who don't work during the day) have been out there and their yards look very nice. I remember mowing by this time last spring, but the grass is not ready for that, yet. It has been way too cold. Guess I will just have to bide my time and wait for warmer days. I hope we don't jump right into hot and humid!

Alumni Weekend

The first weekend in April is always a fun-filled weekend in my community. It is called Alumni Weekend and is even more popular than class reunions here. Anyone who wants to, comes back and plays basketball in a tournament all weekend. Each class has a team (if too few players on a team, classes sometimes join together)dating back to the 70's and as recent as the last graduating class. It's always fun to go and watch the games. Fun to see how my kids classmates change over the years and to see their growing families.

It's Not Rocket Science

I learned something new last week and just had to share it. This info came in an e-mail from a friend of mine. I can't believe my mother or grandmother or even my Home-Ec teacher never informed me of this little tidbit. Maybe they didn't know, either. You know how frustrating it is when you are trying to get aluminum foil out of the box and the whole roll comes out? You try to roll it back up but it's never even and won't come out right. Well, look at the end of the box! It says, Press Here To Lock End. Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place. Who knew!! The e-mail went on to say that this is true of generic brands of foil, too, and, also Saran Wrap. Isn't technology great?
