Summer of ' 69
Yes, the summer of '69. The war in Viet Nam was raging and it seemed like friends of mine were being drafted daily. Some did not want to go, but thought they had no choice. Hippies and "flower children" were instructing our culture to "make love, not war". Charles Manson led his followers to commit the Tate-LaBianca murders. They are still sitting in prison and hopefully will never be paroled. In July, Neil Armstrong was the first man to step foot on the moon. We watched the footage and heard him say "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" on the only television in our home. It was, also, the summer of Woodstock, when 450,000 people showed up in a pasture in Sullivan County, New York for a music festival. And people say we live in a crazy world....
